Restarting the IALS Blog

Aside from the post 'Nineteenth century photographs of Ladakh' (which graced the first incarnation of this blog) the Ladakh Studies blog is being restarted. This page now replaces the old news page that was part of the IALS website ladakhstudies.org

News relating to the IALS and its members will continue to form the foundation of this blog; in many ways this page will become a notice board for the Association. We'll post members' news, details of events that our members may find interesting, research updates, reviews, conference updates, and topical issues being discussed by the Association. We'll also post items such as the 'Nineteenth century photographs of Ladakh'. Over time our authors will increase in number and we hope our readership will too, with both members and non members of the IALS visiting this site.

If you have any comments on how to improve the site we would like to hear from you, and likewise, if you have any content that may be of interest to members of the IALS then please contact one of the blog hosts.

Hi, i have been following the IALS website for sometime now and it lacks the needed interest to involve students and research scholars. I would like to request the blog hosts to be more active if possible. Why don't you include the blog in social website which would result in more interactive blog sessions, because i personally feel that this blog is meant only for existing research scholars who are already involved with IALS. I would appreciate it if more readers are aware of the work by IALS especially the students of Ladakh.

Hi Rigzin,
Thank you for your comments. I fear the tardiness of this reply goes someway to illustrating your point. I'm sorry that you find the IALS website lacking. We welcome any suggestions for improvement but in particular we welcome good quality content that can be added to give the website the interest you desire. Please feel free to submit suitable content and encourage others to do the same.

In defence of the current Blog Hosts I would say we are all busy people, juggling careers (many in academia), pursuit of our respective research interests, the preparation of publications etc. and the IALS is run purely on a voluntary footing. It is difficult therefore to provide the very regular Blog postings one would associate with a conventional Blog and as such I envisaged - when restarting the IALS Blog - that the format would be more akin to an IALS notice board. Of course we also have the facility to discuss matters of interest to the Association and to that end would you be interested in contributing to the Blog with items for discussion? Please email any contributions to exec@ladakhstudies.org and hopefully we can work together to improve the Blog.

Hi,
There could be many more reasons for not being able to update the blog and that is understandable.
I will be more than glad to put up information that we(students of different Universities in Delhi, India)at the University talk about. I have learnt a lot about my own place from your(IALS) publications and now i feel that i should make some contributions. The blog can be used as a virtual platform where the experienced research scholars and the budding researchers can reconnect and mutually share viewpoints on Ladakh. Wouldn't that be encouraging for the students who are and who want to pursue research in their higher studies? I am hoping to make optimum use of this blog.I will definitely send in my contributions for discussion and will step up to make this blog more engaging.

I agree Rigzin, the Blog is under used at the moment and it could be a platform for a lot more interaction between scholars and budding researchers. Hopefully we can encourage more people like yourself to get involved, both established IALS members and individuals new to the Association. We look forward to receiving your contributions.
